The Sailing Classroom offers engaging environmental education programs aboard a historic sailboat on the Hudson River. Tailored for grades 4-12 but also adaptable for adult groups, the core experience involves hands-on activities like fishing, sail setting, and water quality testing. Participants rotate through interactive stations covering navigation, Hudson Valley history and ecology, and marine life observation.

For adult audiences, a more flexible format allows guests to explore rotating stations at their own pace throughout the charter. Experienced educators facilitate "big group talks" providing in-depth background on the Hudson River estuary, the boat's history connected to Pete Seeger and the Clearwater organization, and the interconnections between environmental topics.

The Sailing Classroom aims to foster environmental stewardship through placed-based, multi-sensory learning. Activities draw out themes like sustainability, human impacts, and scientific inquiry. Participants emerge with increased environmental literacy and appreciation for their local waterways. Programs cultivate both cognitive understanding and emotional connections to motivate conservation.

Whether for youth field trips or adult groups, the Sailing Classroom delivers immersive environmental education while gliding peacefully on a historic sailboat. The unique setting creates indelible memories and new perspectives on the living Hudson River.
