Dear School Leader: Your school's out-of-school suspension and expulsion rates need to improve. The teachers in your school are feeling unsupported and share your disciplinary approaches are ineffective. Your in-school suspension room is preferred by students rather than a deterrent. Your administrative staff is overwhelmed by office referrals. You are supposed to be running the school, not the students. Please do something about this. Love, your SUPERintendent. Do YOU resonate with some or all of these real or perceived pressures? If so, this session is perfect for you! During this session, attendees will be challenged to dismantle archaic mindsets and approaches to school discipline. Through relatable story-telling and practical strategy sharing, attendees will leave with concrete approaches to design a tiered, school-wide intervention response plan rooted in the ideals of social emotional learning and restorative practices. Participants will be exposed to and deepen their understanding of progressive school-based approaches they can bring back and implement TOMORROW that get at the heart of student decision making and transform how we think and act on student discipline challenges.
